Docks! New Docks!
It was a pretty big thrill to show up at camp on Monday night and discover the intrepid (and impressive!) work of a group of volunteers and summer staff over the long weekend to finish and install our new docks! From the realization we needed to replace them last fall to installation this weekend was just under 5 months, and we're so, so very happy with the results!
So - what's new about the docks? Take a look at the pictures below!
Right away you'll notice that the dock sections are actually all connected! This means we'll have a nice smooth dock for the whole length, without having to worry about transitions where campers, staff or lifeguards might trip on edges or gaps.
You'll also notice that our dock is a little bit longer. We were able to add another section to the dock, which means that our lifeguarding team will have more space to safely watch campers (and it will give campers a better start at those high dives over pool noodles that Senior Boys campers seem to like doing so much. While lengthening the dock, we've also moved it south a little bit, which means that we've slightly increased the amount of space in our swimming area.
Finally - we've attached our dock to the beach in a way that will remove the lip of the dock from the water. It's another tripping hazard gone, and it also means that our swim dock is a little more accessible to all our campers, no matter their abilities.
All in all, we're very excited about the changes that are coming to our waterfront. We're hoping you notice the difference too! Thank you to our volunteers, donors, and so many of you who helped pray for the completion of this project in a timely fashion. Of course, no thank you would be complete without saying a big one to Mark Vandervecht, whose skill as a builder allows us to do so much at camp right now!
Please continue to pray for us as we work to get everything set up for this summer - it's going to be a blast.
