Last year, we lost a radio.

Each summer, we rent about 8 radios to help the senior staff at Beacon stay in touch with each other, and it’s been great. Because they’re rental radios, we are extra careful to take good care of them and make sure that they don’t go for a swim (I’ll be honest though, we’ve dropped two in the lake… oops).

We did so well in Summer 2018 to carefully track all the radios and make sure that we got them back. We did well until the very last day of the summer - when our hike radio disappeared. No one was quite sure what happened, but it just wasn’t there. It was too bad, because we had to pay the lost radio fee, but these things happen sometimes. I’ll tell you though - we looked for that radio EVERYWHERE. All during the fall rental season, I would open random cupboards and drawers hoping that it would make a re-appearance. It was a true mystery what happened.

Of course, I wouldn’t be telling you this story (and this blog post wouldn’t be called “Lost and Found”) if the radio hadn’t turned up this week. Dash was prepping the beach volleyball court for a rental this weekend and what should be hanging from a tree branch at eye-level than our missing radio!

The radio was full of water, so I don’t think it’s going to be usable again, but it reminded me of a great parable from the book of Luke:

What was lost is now found. And what good news that is! It’s our diligent prayer for every camper at Beacon that they would be found - not for any kind of money or happiness, but for God’s glory. There have been some beautiful moments at camp when a staff member runs into the office and tells us that a child made a decision to follow Jesus, and there is a wonderful satisfaction knowing that a most precious jewel has been added to the Lord’s kingdom.

The best news of all is that once a child is found, they can’t be lost again.
