Summer Wrap-Up 2019: Senior Boys

“Senior Boys…hold the line!”

This rallying cry that echoed throughout camp all week was both a great way to draw back the attention of eighty-four boys and also a constant reminder of the spiritual theme of the lessons about holding fast to God. The boys heard from Infinity in the mornings, who spoke with conviction about characters who had to hold firm in their faith, such as those found in the book of Daniel. There were also many great evening speakers - the boys were able to hear cabin leaders like Scuba, Tuna and Ask share about what it means to live as a Christian. They also heard on the topic of faith and science from the guest speaker Photon.

The week developed a running joke after the cabin leaders “revolted” against one of the games proposed by the directors that would have involved them trying to snatch rip-off bracelets from each other’s wrists in order to earn points for their cabin. The cabin leaders banded together and “unionized”, and from this event sprung numerous follow-up trial skits and revolution enactments. It all culminated in a passionate speech that motivated the campers to charge energetically down to the beach for the much-anticipated Senior Boys game that is simply referred to as “The Wide Game”. All the drama kept the campers on their toes, waiting to see how the plot would develop!

The campers enjoyed regular sunny afternoons down at the beach, although the temperatures were beginning to drop at the end of the week. There was also an untimely downpour while the campers were out on an overnight experience; what had been a relaxed and sunny afternoon and evening turned wet and rainy in the early hours of the morning. The boys were damp upon return, but a hot and breezy afternoon saw them and their stuff returned to normal levels of dryness.

There is no doubt that these boys will sleep well after their full days of activities! We are thankful for the burst of excitement they added as we get to the end of our summer schedule. Hold the line, Senior Boys!
