COVID-19: Update 1

As we navigate the new world that has come from this coronavirus, we are committed to sharing with you as much information as we’re able. Like you, we are all walking through a valley of uncertainty and a lack of information, but what we know for sure, we will tell you.

Below is a (slightly modified to make sense) version of an email that was sent to all our registered summer campers this past week. We encourage you to visit our COVID update page to stay most up to date on what’s happening - all our information is there.

We’re praying for you. Please pray for us. These uncharted waters are unknown to us, but well known by the King of Kings and Lord of Lords. He is in control and He is good.

Dear friend,

You’ve got someone in your household registered for a Beacon program this summer and so I’m reaching out to touch base about the coronavirus and our camp sessions. I know that we’ve all been getting a lot of these emails lately, so I’ll try to keep this short.

We have been carefully monitoring the situation and will continue to do so. We’re listening to our local health unit and are working with Christian Camping International (CCI), other camps and health professionals to ensure we are up to date and following best practices.

We are still planning and preparing for camp sessions this summer, which are more than three months away.

With all the changes in the world, we have a few changes as well, which we’ve made to help our campers and their families:

  • To prevent possible infection, Beacon has been closed to all visitors until at least May 1, 2020.

  • We are removing all cancellation fees for the rest of 2020. Your money is your money, and if you need it, it will be returned to you.

  • As we are still planning for camp sessions this summer, approved payments will continue to be processed on the first of each month, unless you instruct us otherwise. Suzie Rofaiel will be in the office starting on Monday to help with this if you need it.

  • We’ve created a dedicated page on our website as a central hub for all COVID-19 related information: www.beaconbiblecamp.com/covid

The webpage above expands on all these changes in greater detail, and I encourage you to visit it to learn more. It will be updated on a regular basis. As a charity, Beacon is aware of how this current instability may affect us in the near future, but our commitment is to care for you all first, trusting that God will see our camp through tough times.

The start of July is still a long time from now when dealing with a health issue like COVID-19. Every day that goes by brings new knowledge that we trust will put us in a position to ensure that camp is safe by the time that summer 2020 begins. I’m grateful that we serve a God who is in complete control of every situation, even when it feels frustrating and confusing.

I know that many of you have questions. At any time, you can reach out to me personally to talk about these things – you can reach me at director@beaconbiblecamp.com or by cell at 705-646-4647. I’m here to talk through how we can make this better for everyone.

A big social-distancing hug to you all,

Luke “Kodiak” LaRocque
