COVID-19 Update 2
As we navigate the new world that has come from this coronavirus, we are committed to sharing with you as much information as we’re able. Like you, we are all walking through a valley of uncertainty and a lack of information, but what we know for sure, we will tell you. This regular blog update will happen when we can let you know more about the situation at Beacon, but we ask that you reference our Beacon and COVID-19 page for the latest information. You can find that page by clicking here.
The Beacon Board of Trustees met last night, and we had to make the difficult decision to change our programming for the month of May 2020. This impacts the following events:
FLIGHT training weekend
ReKindle staff weekend
3 rental groups
We’re sad that the pandemic is forcing us to make changes, as we truly believe that it’s better when we’re together, but we completely support the plans that the government has put in place to protect vulnerable populations during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Here’s how we’re making changes to adapt:
our FLIGHT training weekend is moving to a virtual set-up, with digital resources being created and online platforms set up to allow our 2020 FLIGHT Crew to build community and spend time together. At this point, no changes are being made to the summer programming at all, and this gives us the chance to extend the training for FLIGHT across several weeks instead of packing it all into one weekend.
our ReKindle staff weekend is moving online. We’re grateful for flexible staff and volunteers who are going to help make this happen - more details to come soon!
our three rental groups have either postponed their visit to Beacon until next year, cancelled their visit with us, or moved their deposit to another event at Beacon. We’re grateful for their understanding at this difficult time.
Updates will continue as we know more, but we are taking things very slowly so that we can be ready for whatever might come. Stick with us, and please reach out to the camp office if you have any questions.
Blessings,
Kodiak
