Girls and Guys ages 14+
To ensure a safe and healthy camping experience, we offer on-site nationally and provincially recognized training programs for our staff and others who are interested. Each year, we offer a variety of courses based on Beacon's staff needs and requests made by camp families and other organizations. In the past, this has included Aquatic Leadership and First Aid training, Canoe Tripping and Instructor Certification and more. All prices include books/materials if required.
Applicants who sign up for Skills Camp courses will be contacted after registration to discuss their specific goals and training needs. Details regarding what to pack and how to prepare will be sent out prior to the beginning of the coursework. For some courses, pre-work is required - more details will be available after registration.
For questions regarding dates and cost, please contact Beacon's Program Director at firstname.lastname@example.org.
Beacon offers three levels of Aquatic Leadership Training:
Bronze Medallion (Ages 14+)
Bronze Cross (Ages 14+)
National Lifeguard - Waterfront (Ages 16+)
National Lifeguard - Pool Upgrade (Ages 16+)
Each course may be taken individually, though most candidates take our "Zero to Hero" program - all of the above courses and Standard First Aid. In order to succeed in any of these courses, a good swimming ability is required. Please contact the camp office if you have more questions.
Note: Aquatic leadership courses meet all training requirements from the Lifesaving Society, including minimum training hours and materials. Aquatic leadership courses are completed in an outdoor environment. Please see below for more details.
First Aid Training
This weekend course covers Standard FIrst Aid and CPR-C certification. It runs from after breakfast on Saturday into Sunday afternoon. Those who wish to re-certify can do so for a reduced cost - contact the camp office for more details about dates for re-certification.
