Lighthouse Renewal Project - February 2020 Update
Luke LaRocque
As we rolled into the new year, there’s been so much happening at Beacon. We’re excited to have a lot of registrations already in for the summer sessions, and we have so many people joining us at the Family Day Festival this coming Monday! It seems like everything is happening all at once at Beacon these days!
One thing that can’t happen on Monday is tours of the new Lighthouse - it’s still considered a construction zone, and so we can’t have people wandering around in there quite yet. All this to say that a digital update is where we’re at today!
As many of you know, we finished our official fundraising just before the turn of the year (fundraising is soooooooo 2019, right? :P). Thank you (once again) to all of you who have prayed and supported this project financially - it is a big step for us to be done raising the funds, and helpful that I (Kodiak) can focus on the running of camp while Mark finishes the building.
Most recently, I’ve seen a lot of the wall finishes go up in the Craft Room, storage room and other spaces. Just a few days from now, the electricians will be back to finish off the wiring for the lights (they look so good!), and then we can work on more finishes, finishes, finishes. Can you tell that we love the word “finished” these days?
One fun part of the building process that I didn’t think about before we started is the reactions of those who haven’t seen every single steps. I’m out at camp every couple of day at the minimum, so the changes don’t always seem drastic - a few more boards here, a new light there. However, when we have people who haven’t seen ANY changes yet, I get particular joy out of watching their faces as the progress is revealed.
This has been most obvious with the new ceiling (pictured at left and in the image at the top of this post). If I’m being honest, Mark and Judy told me all about what the ceiling would be like, and I knew it would look good, but I had no idea it would look THIS good. The first time you walk into the new Lighthouse, the ceiling immediately grabs your attention. I’m eagerly waiting for the first time everyone gets to visit camp - I’ll be right there to see your faces!
So, what’s next for the project? We have a few things happening in the next few days and weeks:
finishing some of the outside projects, like lighting and trim
getting the floors cleaned and prepped for the installation of the commercial-grade flooring
installing and testing the fans
ordering and planning for the audio visual system
installing the Craft Room storage and flooring.
All in all, things are always on the move at Beacon. If you’re here at camp this coming weekend, you’ll have the chance to peek in through the windows at some of the progress, but you’ll have to wait until our big reveal in May for the official opening of the building.
Please continue to pray for Mark, his team and the contractors who are on site working on the building. We are so grateful for all the work that’s happened, and we look forward to what God does with the buildings in the future!
