Beacon's year-round staff are committed to a long-term vision of growth and excellence for our camp's ministry. They manage the day-to-day operations and management of Beacon's facilities and administration, which allows the volunteer session staff to focus on the most important job: making sure that campers have a great week, and become closer to God as a result of their time at camp.
All of Beacon's staff are volunteers. Those who serve as year-round staff are supported financially by individuals and churches who believe in the mission of Beacon's ministry. Much of this support comes from Friends of Beacon Ministries.
Luke LaRocque (Executive Director)
Luke started at Beacon as the Executive Director in 2015. He comes from a background in community development, working with organizations like Yonge Street Mission, Matthew House and Sanctuary Ministries in Toronto, as well as serving overseas with Emmanuel International Malawi. He holds a Masters of Theological Studies (Urban and Intermational Development) from Wycliffe College at the University of Toronto. A lifelong "Beacon guy", he met his wife Alyssa at camp. In his spare time, you can usually find him dreaming of another canoe trip or playing a new board game.

Alyssa LaRocque (Program Director)
Alyssa comes to Beacon with a background in education. Trained in languages, she is also a certified teacher in Ontario. Starting as Beacon's Food Services Manager in September 2015, she now puts her skills to good use making sure that Beacon's programming is always improving, and that our staff are well cared for. She's a passionate outdoorsperson, often spotting a small animal or bird in the forest before anyone else. She and Luke have one daughter and one son (and a fish, but that hardly counts).

Mark Vandervecht (Facilities Manager)
Mark has been working as Facilities Manager at Beacon since May 2015. After managing his own construction company for many years, Mark and his wife Judy are pleased to be using the skills they have acquired for the Lord's service. Both Mark and Judy have been involved in Beacon since childhood. Their three grown children live in Ontario, and they're able to visit almost every week.

Elisa Best (Hospitality Coordinator)
Elisa grew up in Bolton, Ontario and has attended Beacon since she was very young. She graduated from Baking and Pastry Arts in 2016 and then spent some time working in a cozy little cafe on the Lakeshore before starting at Beacon year round in June 2017. In her spare time, she like to work on DIY projects and get outside.

Maddie Hockley (Office Coordinator)
Maddie started with Beacon in November 2017. She has a background in administration working in the non-profit sector for over five years. She graduated from the University of Waterloo with an Arts degree and ended up marrying her high school sweetheart Mark after finishing university. They have a son, Jackson born in 2016. You can find Maddie indoors, curled up with tea and good book/blog or spending time with her family
