Beacon has been incredibly blessed over the years to have received a great deal of donated items that has helped us keep our costs down. We always seek to be good stewards of the resources God has given us and we owe a big debt of gratitude to the dozens if not hundreds of people who have given in this way.
We often get emails asking about whether a specific item would be useful at camp. Sometimes, those items just arrive at camp anonymously. While we appreciate those donations, it’s always helpful if you contact the camp office ahead of time so that we can let you know if the items would be useful at Beacon. Believe it or not, we have limited space to store items!
If you have an item you’d like to donate to camp, please click the button below to let us know. You can also read below for some ideas of things we’re currently looking for!
LEGO for our Maker Space
One of our current dreams for our renovated Lighthouse is to create a “Maker Space”. This area would become a new activity session during camp, and would allow budding architects and engineers to stretch their wings at camp! To start this new creation space, we’re hoping to find as much LEGO as possible to fill it! If you have any old, good quality LEGO bricks that are currently taking up space in a closet or under a bed, we’d love to talk to you about re-using those pieces at camp.
(What is good quality LEGO, you ask? We’re looking for bricks that are not broken with sharp edges or that have been stuck to a piece of Play-Doh for the past 15 years. It would be helpful if you could take a look through your donation before you bring it to camp.)
Adventures in Odyssey
Campers love Adventures in Odyssey. These amazing stories from Focus on the Family are a hit no matter what the age group (Kodiak even had a cabin at Alpha once where his 21-year old guys asked if they could listen to an episode as they fell asleep at night!).
We want to expand our Adventures in Odyseey CD collection so that our staff have easy access to a variety of storylines and themes during the week. If your kids have outgrown their CDs, we’d love to use them at camp! (If you donate them and we’ve already got those episodes, we’ll make sure to donate them to another local Christian organization who can use them to spread the AIO love! Also, as much as we love tapes and casettes, we’re only equipped to take CDs or DVDs.)
