Learning about Creation on YouTube
Doug Smith
Over the years, we’ve had the joy of Doug and Silvia Smith blessing us in many ways at Beacon - my first experience was reading our staff newsletter (back when it was sent out by lettermail) when I eagerly read Into the Woods with Curio. I didn’t know who Curio was, but he taught cool facts and details that I could then use with campers at Beacon in the summer. As we moved our blog online over the last few years, Doug started adding some Into the Woods articles there too, and it’s been fun to go back in time as well and find older articles too!
As camp director at Beacon, I also learned that Doug and Silvia loved to help create amazing experiences for campers on-site. In 2019, they installed a outdoor thermometer on each cabin and developed some neat little programs for each cabin group to try - very fun!
Now, Doug and Silvia are adding another fun element to their teaching about creation, and you can enjoy it at home! They’ve launched a YouTube channel called Getting Into Nature with Silvia and Doug, and they’ve got a few videos already posted. (Yes the videos look like they were filmed before the snow melted, but soon, you’ll all be looking for reasons to get cool in the summer heat, not warm!).
As you can see, Doug and Silvia love creation (and God!) very much, and we love it when our Beacon friends create such great resources. We hope you’ll enjoy the videos we’ve tagged below. You should probably subscribe to their channel so you don’t miss anything!
