Summer Wrap-Up: Junior Boys
Kodiak here! As Junior Boys comes to an end today, here's a look back at some of our favourite things from the past week. As always, pictures are worth a thousand words, so head over to our Junior Boys Facebook album for about 153,000 words about the week!
Favourite Memory: The Junior Boys staff have always been known for their creativity and inventiveness. You can imagine my joy when Timon and Bones (the directors) came pouring into the camp office on Monday morning with cries of "We need a slushie machine!" Determined to make their Friday water regatta the best it's ever been, they not only found a slushie machine, but a cotton candy booth too. Add that to the slide they designed and water soccer, and you have my favourite memory of the week: an epic water regatta full of fun!
Silliest Moment: Once in a while, I have the opportunity to help campers with their swim tests. At our Junior camps, it can be hard to have to fail a camper if they aren't able to swim the full test, and so I work hard to find gentle ways to encourage campers for next year. This year, as I tried to gently explain to a camper that he wasn't going to pass, I explained that he was doing better than I was at his age. That must brightened him up, because he suddenly turned to me and with all seriousness said "Kodiak, that's because I'm half-shark." Out of the mouths of babes.
The Weather Report: We're still looking for our first day of rain at camp this summer. Normally, I'd be saying that with a giant smile on my face, but it's been so long without rain that we're under an official complete fire ban right now in Muskoka Lakes. The cooks outdid themselves, however, and made sure that there were cooked hot dogs for our fire-less beach supper, and there was lots of water all around camp for our Junior Boys to drink!
