Summer Wrap-Up 2019: Senior Girls
What a wonderful week of girls camp we’ve just witnessed!
The chosen theme of Country Western was easy to engage with and easy to enjoy. Hay bales, cardboard cacti, a “Wanted” photo booth sign, and rustic wagon wheels set the tone around camp. The directors’ shout of “Senior Girls” and the girls’ response of “Yeehaw!” echoed around camp whenever the directors were seeking the girls’ attention. A screening of “Little House on the Prairie” added to the western effect. Cabin leaders in pioneer clothes and cowboy hats had the girls smiling during skits every day.
One of the most exciting Country Western events of the week was an evening of square dancing! The caller who came in to lead the dancing was good at explaining the steps and leading everyone through the dances. The laughter and shouts of delighted do-see-do-ing girls filled the air and left no doubt as to how much fun everyone was having!
Another major event, though not related to the theme, was the one-night camping trip that all the cabins embarked on. The different cabins were spread out among five waterside camping sites, which campers traveled to in various ways - some by hiking, some by canoeing, and some by both! Once settled in at the site, campers spent the rest of the evening enjoying activities such as card games, campfire songs, stargazing and signaling to friends at nearby sites. The girls showed amazing stamina in all their travels and were blessed with amazing weather and relatively few bugs (compared to previous days). It was an awesome opportunity for them to enjoy God’s creation together!
Not only are the girls returning home with awesome experiences to remember, but they have also been given amazing faith lessons and life tools thanks to the lessons by Minx. The lessons centered around the idea that when Jesus is our anchor, we can weather what our lives bring us. The examples of Bible characters such as Joseph, David, Mary, Ruth, and Jesus Himself were used to demonstrate these truths.
We were so blessed to spend time with such an amazing team of leaders and such an energetic and positive group of campers, and we pray that they will be blessed by all they have heard and done this week!
