Pulling Back the Curtain: Meet Christina!
Luke LaRocque
God’s faithfulness always shows up in amazing ways. As we sit back and reflect on the summer that was, I thought it would be a good idea to share a story about how God shows up in the big and (in this case) small ways!
When I started at Beacon back in 2015, I connected with our long-time designer, Lindsay Landgraff Henry, to see where things are at. Lindsay’s family has an amazing “Beacon design pedigree” - her father Mike designed the original Beacon sun, and Lindsay updated that logo design a few years ago when she also created the website you’re reading right now! Lindsay’s business, Inklings Paperie, was really starting to take off and she let us know that while her heart was always with Beacon, it might be good if we found some local help.
Enter God’s timing! Another couple of long-time Beaconites, Bill and Laura Jansen, happened to be visiting for a work day that autumn. They mentioned that a young up and coming designer in their area was looking for people and organizations to work with. If you know me at all, you know that one of my favourite sayings is “There’s no such thing as co-incidence, just God choosing to be obvious”. I got in touch with Christina and we collaborated on a few smaller pieces to see what her design process was like.
Needless to say, we’ve really loved all the work she’s done for us. If you have a copy of last year’s registration postcard, or if you were handed a “stay in touch” card as you were leaving Beacon this summer, or if you saw the new stand-up banners that welcomed families at the registration tent (or camp fairs), you’ve seen some of her amazing work! Christina’s help arrived at an amazing time, just when we were in need of some support in a very specific area, and I’ve been really grateful for her work ethic, humour and especially her patience (I’m bad at promising deadlines and then getting distracted by other things at camp, and Christina has always been gracious in reminding me to get my part of the design to her!).
