What's in a Beacon Membership?
Luke LaRocque
IMPORTANT EDIT: The AGM was postponed until September 15, 2018. Join us at Willowdale Christian Assembly at 7:00pm for worship and important updates about camp (map here).
It's that time of year again - Beacon will be holding its Annual General Meeting on April 14th, and we'd love to have you there! This year, we've had more requests than usual from camp families interested in becoming members at Beacon, which is always a great feeling - people getting more involved in the planning and operation of camp!
For those of you who are new to camp, or who are considering membership, we thought we'd post a quick outline of what membership at Beacon means, and how you can be involved! At the bottom of this post is an opportunity for you to request a membership brochure, which we'll send out to you in time for the AGM on April 14th (held in Toronto at Willowdale Christian Assembly, also known as the Beacon bus stop).
What does membership mean?
As the voice of Beacon Bible Camp, the Beacon membership elects the Board of Trustees/Directors to represent their interests in the overall running of Beacon Bible Camp and to bear legal accountability for the corporation.
Who can be a member?
Beacon members are adult believers who live in moral and spiritual standing that is consistent with Biblical teaching from the Word of God represented by the Beacon Doctrinal Statement. They are individuals who demonstrates/ possesses active involvement in a local church/assembly, a keen interest in the ministry of Beacon Bible Camp, and who are sponsored by a current Beacon member.
As a member, what am I responsible for?
Members of Beacon are expected to attend the Beacon Annual Meeting at least once every 5 years. It is recommended that members be active in other Beacon functions, such as:
- Beacon Work Days
- Beacon Prayer Events
- Staff Development/Training
- Volunteering at a camp session
Members at Beacon vote on Beacon Bible Camp reports and by-laws, elect Board members at the annual meeting and commit to praying for the ministry at Beacon and the staff and volunteers who serve at camp during camp sessions and year-round.
There you have it - if you want to join Beacon's ministry as a member, use the form below to request a membership brochure. We'd be happy to send you one, and we look forward to seeing you on April 14th!
