A New Approach to Waitlists!
Luke LaRocque
We all know that waitlists aren’t fun. As much as it brings me joy to know that camp sessions at Beacon are full, it’s also hard knowing that it means that someone is going to be on a waitlist, hoping that a spot might open up.
We aim to make our waitlist process as painless as possible for those who are trying to register for a camp session. In the past, that’s involved a complicated system of emails, being added to a digital list, and then tracking that list based on when people call or register. It was an imperfect system, and not always easy for the office staff at Beacon to manage.
Thankfully, we don’t have to worry about that anymore! Our camp software provider, CampBrain, released a waitlist feature late in 2018, and we’re happy to have had it in place for the start of summer registration. We’ve already had to implement it for Senior Girls, Senior Boys and Oasis Family Camp.
We thought it would be helpful to clearly outline how the waitlist process works now:
visit the Camper Registration Portal like you would for any other registration
if a camp session is already full, a small tag next to the camp session will say “Waitlist Available”
click on Show Details next to the camp session, and then “Add to Waitlist”
you’ll be asked to complete one form (the Household form) to make sure that we have the correct contact information for you
after that, it’s a simple matter of submitting the application - as soon as a spot opens up for your son or daughter, we’ll call you and check to see if you’d still like the spot.
you’ll still need to complete other forms and give us some more information, but we won’t worry about that until after you’ve been allocated a spot
Hopefully this helps clear up a little bit of the confusion around waitlists, and what we need from you. If there’s every any questions, call the camp office - we can manually add you to the waitlist that way as well!
