What do you get when you mix nine energetic participants, all kinds of delicious recipes (old and new), and a passion for the work at camp? One very fun and successful baking weekend!
The group, made up of Susan Mikitka, Kim Wiley, Marianna Hovestadt, Kim Louwerse, Vera Best, Elisa Best, Silvia Smith, Tristan Sovereign and Alyssa LaRocque, had the benefit of years of cooking and baking experience both at home and in the Beacon kitchen, as well as the technical expertise of Elisa and Tristan, whose post-secondary education is in pastry/baking!
The total number of items produced would make any mouth water in anticipation:
- 122 dozen Cheese Tea Biscuits
- 41 1/2 Oatmeal Chocolate Chip Cookie rolls
- 12 Carrot Cakes
- 6 Strawberry Squares
- 5 Banana Cakes
- 8 1/2 Chewy Brownie pans
- 4 buckets Crumble Topping
- 8 Banana loaves
- 5 Pumpkin loaves + 3 dozen pumpkin muffins
- 10 Chocolate Spice loaves
- 9 Spice loaves
- 10 Cinnamon Loaves
- 10 Cinnamon Soda Bread loaves
- 3 birthday cakes
So when you sink your teeth into some of these delicious homemade items this summer, know that they were prepared with care just for you this weekend!
