Welcoming a new Office Coordinator
Luke LaRocque
After almost 8 months of active prayer and waiting on God to provide clear direction, we're very happy to announce that Beacon will have a new year-round staff member joining us, starting sometime in the next couple of weeks! That's right: we've hired an office coordinator!
I'll let her introduce herself below:
Hi! I’m Maddie Hockley and I’m thrilled to be able to tell you a bit about myself so we can get to know one another better.
I grew up in a small town and am the middle child with two sisters. I attended church each Sunday and my parents adore Jesus and were actively serving in our local church. I’m so humbled and grateful to have the childhood I had and really grew in my faith during this time.
I am a camp girl and grew up going to Conestoga Bible Camp. Looking back as a camper and counselor I can easily identify ways God used camp to grow and stretch me. I met my husband, Mark, at camp and we ended up serving on the pastoral team together ministering to the counselors. We love camp and believe in the vision and opportunity summer camp has that is different to the local church.
I was married in 2013 and had a baby boy in May of 2016. My past work experience has been an office administrator for Conestoga Bible Camp and recently I worked in vocational ministry as an office administrator and director of children’s ministry for a church in our area. I have a heart for children and organization and I believe these gifts will be useful as I get to serve at Beacon.
My husband is a pastor and at the end of August we moved from Southern Ontario to Gravenhurst, so that he could start a new position. It has been incredible watching God work as I learnt about this amazing camp and the open position.
I am honoured to be given the opportunity to serve Jesus at Beacon and look forward to interacting with many of you in the future!
Sometimes, God doesn't answer prayers for a while, and it can leave a person (or a Bible camp!) wondering what is going on. In this case, it is so satisfying to look back at the last few months of wondering and then compare that to how perfectly God seems to have prepared Maddie for the role at Beacon. We asked for someone who would truly fit the job description, and God provided someone who has Christian children's camp administrative experience (which, if you weren't tracking along, is exactly what we need!). Please join with us in praising God for bringing along an amazing candidate to help lead the office at camp.
Maddie will be starting at Beacon sometime in the next couple of weeks, and will be working in a part-time (3 days a week) capacity. As she completes her training, she'll be taking over the office email address, and starting to answer the phones (I know you're all pretty tired of listening to Luke! :P). When you get the chance to talk to her, please give her a warm Beacon welcome.
