Staff Thursday: Nicolas Schaeffer
Alyssa LaRocque
We love Staff Thursdays, because it gives us a chance to highlight some of the awesome staff that serve the Lord at camp. This week, we are pleased to introduce you to Nicolas Schaeffer, who has been a faithful presence at camp since he did FLIGHT in 2012. This summer he was up for three different weeks, for which we (and his campers!) are very thankful.
NICOLAS "TOPS" SCHAEFFER
What do you do in your "real life"?
I’m currently working in flooring and renovation.
Tell us about a pastime or hobby of yours.
I enjoy cooking for my family, learning about World War II aviation, and doing Martial Arts.
What do you like about the age group(s) you spent time with at Beacon this summer?
I was a cabin leader for Junior Boys, Senior Boys and Basecamp. The Junior Boys are blast to work with because they are fun, honest and rambunctious. The Senior Boys are twice as full of energy as their Junior counterparts. With the Basecamp group, I found that we had plenty of deep, meaningful conversations about faith.
Tell us about a meaningful experience you had at camp this summer.|
Some highlights this summer were: Camping out by Beacon’s lake at Senior Boys and talking about God with the campers around a campfire, connecting with friends both old and new, and just seeing the heavens declare the glory of God almost every single night.
What is something that God is teaching you these days?
This year has been a pretty interesting one. God has been teaching me about humility and patience. I've been learning to wait on the Lord – on His timing and His will instead of my own.
What message would you give to those you spent time with this summer?
I’d like to remind everyone of Hebrews 10:23-25, which says, “Let us hold fast the confession of our hope without wavering, for he who promised is faithful. And let us consider how to stir up one another to love and good works, not neglecting to meet together, as is the habit of some, but encouraging one another, and all the more as you see the Day drawing near.”
