Summer Staff 2018 Applications Update

There is now less than one month left to apply to be part of the 2018 Beacon Summer Staff team! If you are someone who is considering serving at camp in this way, we have a few key updates based on feedback that we're hoping will show our commitment to these valuable positions at camp:

  1. Training: We would like to hold a training weekend as an alternative to requiring staff to come up in advance of Skills Camp to be prepared for summer staff duties and responsibilities. We're planning to run this weekend from June 1-3, 2018. 
  2. Skills: This year, a number of you have expressed concern because the start of the Summer Staff commitment comes up against high school exams. If you were hoping to train as a lifeguard but are prevented from attending Skills Camp, Beacon will help subsidize the cost of you receiving that same training wherever you live. Having these skills is a benefit not only to camp, but to you personally because of the job opportunities for the future that it opens, so we hope you'll take advantage of this! Contact us if you are interested in this option.
  3. Funding: We know that serving at Beacon involves a financial sacrifice for most people. Most of our session staff are volunteers, and we know that our summer staff could go elsewhere to make more money during the summer. We appreciate so much that so many have committed their summers to serving. If your concern about "earning enough for school" is preventing you from applying to summer staff, we'd love to talk with you. Working with Friends of Beacon, we're developing a new funding model that will help cover those costs for those who need it. We don't want financial concern to be a reason you don't serve at camp this year. Contact us if you'd like to know more.

We hope that these updates will open up doors for people who are considering serving God at Beacon this summer. If you are interested in the positions but have not yet applied, we encourage you to do so. Applying shows your interest, but it is just the first step. Our goal in the summer staff application and interview process is that both the year-round Beacon staff team and the summer staff applicant both feel that serving all summer in this capacity is the right fit. We invite you to seek God with us in this process, and see where He takes all of us!
