Looking Ahead: FLIGHT 2019
Alyssa LaRocque
Here at Beacon, we love when kids come to camp for the first time and we can see their excitement and energy and curiosity. We also love it when we see those same campers come back year after year - we watch them grow into themselves and see the way that having a camp that feels like home can mean so much to them. And it doesn’t have to stop there - we love it all the more when those same campers decide to serve the Lord and give back to the Beacon community by deciding to become leaders themselves!
That, ladies and gentlemen, is where FLIGHT comes in!
Beacon’s Future Leaders In God’s Harvest Training (FLIGHT) is a chance to continue to invest in young people by providing them with the opportunity to grow as leaders by learning to provide the same programming and mentoring that they have experienced at camp. We are so proud of the young men and women who have come through FLIGHT through the years, and we’re ready to warmly welcome another crew in 2019.
For all who are interested in growing as a Christian leader (whether you’re a Beacon “lifer” or just someone who loves kids and camp), here are some things you should know about FLIGHT 2019:
Applications are already open! They became available on our website as of October 1st, and they will remain open until November 30th. You can find the application by going to the Staff section and selecting “FLIGHT” on the drop-down menu, or by clicking here.
FLIGHT is available for those turning both 15 or 16 in 2019! In previous years, FLIGHT has been aimed only at those turning 16 in that year; as of this year, we’ve opened it up to those turning 15 as we transition our program to include more extensive and comprehensive training.
FLIGHT has two parts! There are two parts to the 2019 training. The first part is a weekend at the beginning of May where you meet your FLIGHT crew and assess and develop your personal Christian leadership. The second part is a week of camp (Junior Girls for female participants and Junior Boys for male participants) where theory meets practice as leaders learn new skills in the context of a camp session. Both are requirements of the FLIGHT course.
We are so excited to see what young leaders God sends our way. If you have any questions, please email flight@beaconbiblecamp.com or call the camp office, and we’ll help you sort things out.
Here’s to our future leaders!
