Camp Names: Bender (Ben) and Stat (Amber)
Lives: Caledonia
How long have you been attending/serving at Beacon?
Bender: Attending Beacon since 2 years old (approximately 29 years)
Stat: 5 years
How would you describe your current role?
Both of us have recently been leaders for the Co-ed campers. Some highlights for Bender as a cabin leader would be getting to know the campers better on multiple levels. Some highlights for Stat as a cabin leader would be enjoying late night talks and encouraging/challenging the campers in their faith.
What are your personal favourite food, place and activity at camp?
Food: Bender: Chicken a la King, Stat: Joyce’s Chicken
Place: Bender: The lake, Stat: Dock at the lake
Activity: Both: Coed out trip
What are you up to in life outside of camp these days?
Bender: I am currently doing an apprenticeship in sheet metal, and am a youth leader at church.
Stat: I am currently on maternity leave from nursing, but am attending school full time to finish a master's degree in Nursing and Nurse Practitioner. I am a youth leader at church as well.
What’s a talent or hobby of yours that people might not know about?
Bender: Hunting, fishing and orienteering
Stat: Woodworking, fishing
Why do you love volunteering at Beacon?
Bender: I get to come back year after year (even though I'm old now), and get to encourage the campers and teach them while exploring the great outdoors
Stat: I get to encourage and challenge the campers in their faith at a very pivotal time in their lives.
